This software is designed to support two very important aspects of school work - assessment and transition.

The Welsh Assembly Government's decision to withdraw the Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs)  at the ends of Key Stages 1, 2 and 3, left schools and local education authorities (LEAs) facing challenges associated with accuracy and consistency of assessment, within and across schools.  In Caerphilly County Borough Council we sought a web-based, electronic, solution.  'Voyager' enables schools at all key stages and in all year groups, to moderate assessments on-line, at both individual cluster and county-wide levels.
Additionally, as teachers develop, with LEA support, assessment materials, it will be possible for children to carry out appropriate assessment tasks on-line.  Very importantly, the software will also support the WJEC Key Stage 3 moderation project for core and foundation subjects.  Effective web-based moderation in this key stage has the potential to eliminate costly, time-consuming, burdensome paper-based exercises requiring travel to numerous settings within and beyond the locality.

'Voyager' is also designed to support transition from any key stage (or year group) to the next.  The transfer of key data is achieved by a click of a button!  But it will also be possible to transfer samples of children's work to the receiving school or college.  Together, the assessment and transition tool will enable schools to track individual children's progress and development from the time they start school through to 16+.  Having the capacity to do this will help schools to personalise children's learning more effectively.  Producing the statutory Transition Plan for 2007 should be straightforward for any school using Voyager.
